President Obama and Republican House Leaders will Host Town Hall Meetings Via Linkedin and Facebook Today
In 2008, then Senator Barack Obama capitalized on the tech savvy under 40, and in some cases under 30 crowd by out texting, out e-mailing, out Facebooking and out Tweeting his more senior Democratic party primary opponents and his general election opponent Senator John McCain. Through his groundbreaking Internet Marketing strategy Mr. Obama was able to circumvent the deep pockets of his pockets of his opponents more traditional donors by soliciting support and donations through mobile alerts, Facebook status updates and e-mail blasts. Not only did the Obama team out raise their opponent(s) through this they also broke ground by announcing the selection of his running mate, Senator Joe Biden, via a mobile text alert.
Today, the president who made headlines as being the first president to carry a Blackberry telephone will make tech history again- at 2 pm today President Obama will host the first every Linkedin Town Hall Meeting. A few months ago, he hosted a Facebook Town Hall discussing a wide host of issues. Today’s meeting will focus on jobs and the economy, which is appropriate due to Linkedin’s more professional membership, if you want to make history log into Linkedin today around 2 pm and join the discussion. Today’s Town Hall also falls on the 51st anniversary of the first ever-televised presidential debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.
The president isn’t the only politician reaching out to voters through a Social Media platform today. A team of self proclaimed “Young Gun” Republican leaders in the United States House of Representatives will moderate their own Town Hall Meeting through Facebook today. Facebook users can log in at 6 pm EST and chat with Rep(s) Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy.
